Bardstown Bourbon Company Visit
Located in Bardstown Kentucky in the Bourbon Capital of the world, lies Bardstown Bourbon Company, a modern and unique property on 100 acres, with one of the most sophisticated distilleries in the country. With a focus on transparency, these guys are doing something really special here. They focus on a collaborative distilling process and custom whiskey production that brings together some of the most experienced distillers in the industry together under one roof. These guys make nearly 40 different mash bills for a ton of well known brands which include Jefferson’s, High West, Belle Meade, Hirsch, Calumet, James E. Pepper, Cyrus Noble, and more. While their own bourbon is aging, they are doing some pretty amazing blends with their 2 year plus aged product. The Fusion Series is 60% of their own 2 year bourbon blended with 40% 11 year old sourced Kentucky Bourbon (see website for exact mash bill). Let me be the first to tell you this stuff is awesome! Their 2 year product is really great on its own, we tasted it on the tour. I cant even begin to imagine how good this stuff will be when aged to maturity. When added to the 11 year sourced Bourbon the Fusion Series is something really special. On the nose it has notes of caramel, leather, and tobacco. On the palate it is rich and welcoming with a nice well rounded spice, and great lasting finish. We also got to try the Collaborative Series which is a 100% sourced 9-year-old Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey, finished in Phifer Pavitt Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon barrels from Napa Valley. The result here is awesome! We really enjoyed this one, definitely one of the best Cabernet finished bourbons I have ever tried. Finally, we were lucky enough to try their rare release of the Collaboration Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Muscat Mistelle Barrels. This one blew us away! The flavor was unlike anything I have had before- so rich and complex. I am still regretting not bringing one of those home. If you visit, definitely pick one up before it’s gone forever. Not only is Bardstown Bourbon Company an amazing distillery, but their restaurant Bottle and Bond Kitchen and Bar is off the charts cool. The bar is stocked with an unreal selection of bourbons, including a library of some ultra rare vintage dusty bottles. The craft cocktail program is insane as well. Although we didn’t get a chance to eat here while visiting, we heard really great things about their amazing scratch kitchen. They are also building a hotel on the property, which will be incredible when it is completed. They are expanding into what will be the ultimate Kentucky Bourbon Country Resort. You can not go wrong with this place! To top it off everyone at Bardstown Bourbon Company is so humble, warm, welcoming and Inviting. These people are some really good folks! Thanks again to Peter Loftin, David Mandell, and Dan Callaway for the hospitality, and wonderful time you gave us at the distillery!
