We've been curious to try Colonel E.H. Taylor from Buffalo Trace for a while now since their Four Grain was named as the 2018 Whiskey of the Year in Jim Murray's Whiskey Bible. They've all been hard to find at a decent price until recently. The Small Batch seems to be their entry level and we bought this on bittersandbottles.com for $39.50 and at that price it definitely doesn't disappoint. The nose has notes of oak, caramel and butterscotch with a well balanced palate of sweet corn, licorice and a little pepper. It seemed to have a leathery/dusty character in a good way. We can't wait to try the Four Grain and Single Barrel at some point.
